Americans Dominated the 2012 World Parachuting Championships

Welcome to open skies!

Did you know that there’s a World Parachuting Championships and that it just wrapped up on December 9th?  Not many people are aware of the WPC.  The championships, held in Dubai, attracted more than 800 ambitious daredevils.  Were you one of them?

The championships cover almost every facet of skydiving.  People compete in formation skydiving, vertical formation skydiving, among others.  Judges award medals to divers for such things as individual accuracy landing, individual freefall style, team accuracy landing, overall male, overall male team, overall female, and overall female team.

The championships must’ve looked like a scene from a big-budget movie.  Dreamers and divers filled the skies above Dubai.  People looked up in awe and wonder at the dazzling display of daredevilry.  Such sights can heat up any hearts!  Skydiving is as popular as ever right now.  Katy Perry performed and even parachuted in for her set!  Even the music industry wanted to take part!

America dominated the championships, with the U.S. Army Golden Knights Formation Flying 8-Way Team taking home the gold, squeaking by France and crushing Russia.  Sgt. 1st Class Brian Krause led the team.  The all-female team also took home the silver.  You can read more about their high-flying accomplishments on the official homepage of the United States Army.
